How to read a Bosch model number

York, Coleman and Luxaire are Johnson Controls brands that share model numbers, and the Bosch and older Nordyne mobile-home furnaces are covered here too. In the York-group tables, the cabinet letter plus the blower size digits pick the filter row.

Bosch BGS80 and BGH96

Example: BGH96M080C4B

CharactersWhat they mean
1-3BGS = Bosch gas single-stage 80%, BGH = Bosch gas high-efficiency
4-5AFUE class (80, 96)
6M = multipoise
7-9input in thousands of Btu/h
10cabinet letter: A 14.5, B 17.5, C 21, D 24.5 in (verified against submittal dimension tables)
11nominal cooling tons of blower (3,4,5), inferred, not printed
12revision (A, B, C)

How it connects to the filter: Bosch filter tables are keyed by cabinet width only.

Where this comes from: Bosch BGS80 Engineering Submittal Sheet 09.2018, page 4; Bosch BGH96 Engineering Submittal Sheet 03.2024, page 4.

Related families from the same maker group

These share parts of the numbering system with Bosch, so they can help with an older or rebadged label.

York group: older T- and Y-prefix families

CharactersWhat they mean
1-4family (T=tri-brand/York, M or G = series, 8/9 = 80% / 90%+ AFUE, L in 3rd position = low-NOx 80% version e.g. TMLX, TGLS; last letter = generation/motor type e.g. V variable speed, E standard ECM, X, Y, T, M modulating, C (P9C) modulating)
5-7input in thousands of Btu/h (040 = 40,000; 080 = 80,000)
8cabinet letter: A = 14.5 in, B = 17.5 in, C = 21 in, D = 24.5 in wide
9-10nominal blower CFM in hundreds (08 = 800, 10 = 1000, 12 = 1200, 16 = 1600, 20 = 2000, 22 = 2200)
11-12MP = multi-position
Restrevision digits / letters (11, 12, 13, C), vary

How it connects to the filter: Filter tables are keyed by nominal CFM + cabinet letter, so characters 8-10 select the row.
